Have you missed me?
Yes, I am perfectly aware that I have been AWOL for over 3 weeks now. I'm sure some of you were wondering if I'd fallen off a cliff, or worse, had my blog interrupted by Kanye West.
In fact, I've maintained radio silence for a couple of very good reasons. 1) I haven't had a lick of time to myself over the past 3 weeks, and 2) I didn't want to go all political on you all again.
The first reason is the biggest one for my absence. I truly haven't had a moment to take a breath, let alone eat lunch or go pee at work since school started. Usually by three weeks into the school year, things have slowed down in my office. This year, it seems to be getting busier and busier. I've been going home almost every night with more work than I started the day with, and am simply treading water in my new position.
The second, well, you know how I feel about stupidity, and lately there has been an abundance going around. I was on the front lines of the whole "I don't want Führer President to melt my child's brain," and it made me absolutely sick. If you've been a regular visitor here, you know how I voted for president, but even if this had been "W" and people had been screaming about it like they did with Obama, I would have been just as pissed. I won't even get started on it here because I'll go on for 10,000 words about it. Suffice to say that some people will repeat whatever garbage they've been fed from the radio or TV, and they're the ones worried about their kids being brainwashed?! So yeah. I needed some time the cool off from that.
At any rate, things have been completely jam packed around here. I have found myself thinking on more than one occasion lately, "My life is no longer my own." It seems like the only time I get to myself any more is the 15-20 minutes I stay up after feeding Peach at night to make sure she's actually sleeping.
Quick updates on everyone else: Peach is going to get a CT scan when she's 6 months old to find out what, exactly is wrong with her inner ear. Until then, we're going to start her with a hearing aid and hope for the best. She's started smiling like crazy all of the time, especially when our faces come into view, so she's developing normally in that respect.
Peanut is loving preschool, and every day when she wakes up, asks if she's going to school. She sings the songs she's learned at school all the time, and has started asking how to say a lot of words in Spanish, too.
Juice went back to work last week, and is doing really well. She's right back in the swing of things with her students and colleagues, and is already griping about the stupidity of the people she works with. She also turned 32 last week, and we got a night out with friends without kids for the first time since Peach had been born. It was really nice to hang out with friends, and have dinner without having to worry about someone spilling, or having to cut up someone's food.
We're really looking forward to my folks coming back down in December so we can enjoy more nights like that.
I'm going to try to be better about keeping this up to date, but man, I'm tired.

Glad to see you had a chance to post.
While I agree the whole thing with the speech was a tad bit ridiculous (not unlike the way people freaked when G.H.W. Bush did the same thing during his tenure), I do suspect that the message delivered to students in the end was probably much different than originally written.
Regardless, I don't care who the president is, I don't see why he or she should not be able to address the youth without it being some huge issue.
Anyway, hope all is well and hope the hearing aid helps for your little Peach.
here, here. glad to know peach is doing good too. i'm sure everything will work out fine. no matter what comes down the pipe, children have a wonderful ability to overcome...
keep writing. might help you keep your sanity.
